The Weekend Wrap

A great start to the season with 4 out of the 5 senior sides claiming comprehensive wins. Was great to see a good turnout back at the club after saturdays games. Lets all get on the track this week and get ready for another big week of cricket.

A Grade Vs Leschenault
Winning the toss and bowling first on a green wicket it would of been easy to get carried away and think the pitch was going to do it all. The seamers toiled hard to keep it tight before finally the floodgates opened and wickets fell on a regular basis. Chasing 96 for victory the run chase wasnt easy but we eventually got there 2 down with the Goodwins finishing things off in style. A good all round effort with bat, ball and in the field and some good signs for the year ahead.
Jayden Goodwin 5/10 and 32no
Murray Goodwin 45no

B Grade Vs Leschenault
Being sent in to bat things werent looking as flash as they would of hoped being 6/85 but a awesome captains knock from Danny the meat head Ennor and some power hitting from new kid on the bloke Ian Oglesby, aided by a handy knock of 30 balls from the cutie himself Ali Wood lifted the teams total to a very defendable 151. The bowling got off to a interesting start with Cammy Hannagan trying to knock the batters heads off with 2 beamers in a row but once he settled in him and woody had them 6/28. Enter Rory the love machine Binnie and that was all she wrote with the boys bowling leschenault out for 84
Danny Ennor 53
Ian Oglesby 35 and 1/17 off 5
Cam Hannagan 4/22 off 9
Alli Wood 2/23 off 9
Rory Binnie 3/17 off 6

C Grade Vs Hay Park
With their fearless leader and club legend tony ciallella out of action due to a sore heart muscle the boys unearthed some great young talent. Bowling first the boys were on fire with young gun Tyler "the future" King claiming 3/10 off 6 including the prize scalp of chris waddingham ( maybe thats why he then turned to sledging 15 years olds later on) and Micky " i train alone " Harris chipping in with 3/14 off 8. Big Brenton "send off" Mcquade bowled brilliantly and joined in the party with 2/24 off 9 bowling hay park out for 73. Awesome to see young "George" Bailey Alexander hitting a fine 42 off 62 balls and copping a barrage of sledges along the way, a real credit to Bailey who has worked hard in the pre season. Speaking of a big pre season, how good was seeing the big man him self Brayden "Pencils" Hannagan with a little not out at the end, im sure we wont see him on the track but who needs to train when you have arms like that? Well done to the boys chasing the runs 1 down and starting the season off nicely.
Bailey Alexander 42
Darren Austin 21no
Tyler King 3/10 off 6 and a run out
Mick Harris 3/14 off 8
Brenton Mcquade 2/24 off 9

D Grade Vs Leschenault
Once again the hard deck bullies won the toss and caught a bit by suprise as they hadnt thought that far ahead yet they sent leschenault in. The ball was thrown to the young fellas, opening the bowling with Cain "i look 30" Kelly and Jack "Bambi" Buswell. Bambi picking up 3/28 working into the wind and young Cain a well bowled 0/20 off 8. Then came Simmsy who was the victim of surprisingly the only dropped catch of the day by big Merv. A great start in the black and gold to Stephan "the Funnel KIng" Reid with 3/18 off 8 and then cleaning up the tail with some precision spin bowling was Jarred "the dart king' Back. A solid effort all round bowling them out for 133. Roland wanted to give the opposition a head start and took one for the team claiming a golden duck but a fine knock to Bev "the Master" Meston and Ian " how do we sleep while the beds are burning" Prosser making sure the boys got over the line 3 down with a bonus point and making sure Cain got to his girlfriends dance concert in time.
Bev Meston 59
Ian Prosser 29
Dan Basset Scarfe 27
Jack Buswell 3/28 off 7
Stephan Reid 3/18 off 8
Jarred Back 3/16 off 7

E Grade vs Dardanup
A large crowd greeted the Colts 5th grade at Hay Park 3 on Saturday arvo, with seating under the Hay Park 4 Ablution Block at Standing Room only. After winning the toss & electing to bat on the damp astro turf, we sent the “Hughes Boyz – Craig & Brian” in to combat the Dardanup pace attack, which they did with aplomb. Unfortunately we didn’t quite take advantage of our good start, with our scorecard resembling that of an Australian test team playing in Dubai?? We lost 10 wickets for 63 runs with Craig Hughes 41, Brian Hughes 21 & Sam Allen 13 (in his first game of senior cricket) being the backbone of the innings. Unfortunately we only managed one “Dorothy Dix” on the day, with “Shawy” getting on the back foot & smashing one over the square leg cones. With 122 on the board we needed quick wickets early & that’s exactly what Curtis " squirtis" Mateljan delivered with his 5th ball of the day, crashing into the Dardy opener’s middle & off stumps. A change of bowling from the Northern end of H3 had them all guessing with “Shawy” (off his long run) using all his guile & wit to etch out 3 wickets. A change of ends for the left arm seamers of Sam Lockley was a master stroke, with the young gun ending up with the fine figures of 1-35 from his first 8 overs in senior cricket. Returning from drinks & needing 3 wickets, the required 43 runs was run down with the loss of just one more wicket with 8 overs to spare. Curtis ended a fine bowling spell with 3 for 20 off his 8 overs & Oky gave us a masterclass in leg spin bowling with 5 quality overs. A couple of great catches by young Hughesy & Sam Allen kept us in the game, with that type of athleticism not being possible by ¾’s of the 5th grade team members, for quite a number of years.
